January Book Club

I started reading our January Book Club pick, “The Book fo Lost Names”.  Over the past few years, I’ve been reading only historical fiction.  Maybe it’s because my time was limited and I’d rather learn something when I read instead of just reading thrillers.  Or perhaps the thrillers weren’t helping my cortisol levels. Whatever the case, I find myself trying to understand what it would be like to live a day in the shoes of someone trapped in a war that was not of their choosing and I’m mesmerized by the character’s grit and resilience.

I read “The Room on Rue Amelie” by the same author and thoroughly enjoyed it but it makes you wonder – how many untold stories from WWII are now buried with the tortued souls who locked the memories away because they were just too painful to unlock?  As I’m getting older, I find myself being more forgiving or understanding of human behavior because you truly don’t know what demons people are fighting.

While I’m only on Chapter 4, I think I’m going to enjoy this read.  For anyone keeping track of my decluttering journey, note my first failure.  My daughter cleaned out a bag from her room and it had magnetic bookmarks in it…I couldn’t part with them and immediately put one to good use. Sigh.  Today is a new day and I’ll try to make up for it by getting rid of a little bit more.
